Your first visit

A first visit takes about an hour.

  1. Step 1: Before you come

Our front desk checks your plan and calls you with what they find. Forms go through our patient portal, so you can fill them in at home.

  2. Step 2: The conversation

Your physical therapist asks about your sport, your schedule, what has changed and what you want to do again. You and your parents are welcome to ask anything.

  3. Step 3: The exam

Your therapist watches you move, tests strength and range, and treats what they can that day. Wear what you would wear to practice.

  4. Step 4: Your plan

Your therapist explains what they found, the risks and the choices, and agrees a plan with you. If your athletic trainer needs a note, we write it.

  5. Step 5: Before you leave

You go home with a few exercises, what to do and what to skip at practice this week, and the next step.

What is not decided on day one

  • How many visits

That depends on what your therapist finds and how you respond. Your therapist talks it through with you as you go.

  • When you play again

Return to play follows your physician, your athletic trainer and the tests. We don't set a date at the first visit.

  • Anything about surgery or medicine

Those decisions belong to you and your physician. We tell you if we think you should see one.
